Give Them Hope-African Children

Starvation, diseases, low life expectancy, and harmed environment, numerous elements and conditions lead many African countries into chaos and miserable states. People in those counties suffer and hope for a better day, a day with enough food to eat and water to drink, in their lives. Children who are born in those regions do not deserve all the torture and injustice. Looking at their faces, full of sadness and helplessness, how can a moral person walk away without giving a helping hand?

Today, we live in a society full of sharing. We share information with people from different cities and different countries through social media and internet; we share knowledge and opinion on different events happening in the world. With networks, we communicate with strangers which we feel like we are only separated by a coffee table. There are waves of waves of news reporting about the conditions in Africa and the miserable lives of the civilians. If we can hear the truth and see the image of a person suffering without hope or power to stand up for his/herself, it is inhumane and immoral for a human being to watch that person suffer to death.

According to SOS Children's Village's statistics of African children, 1 out of 12 children born in the sub-Saharan regions dies before the age of 5, and it is at least 14 times compare to the developed countries. Among the death of under-5 children, 1.3 million, about 40 percent, of those children are diagnosed and untreated with pneumonia, diarrhea, and malaria.

In most sub-Saharan African countries, there is no birth control or any sanitation standard. Constantly, we watch news report showing the inhumane conditions of the dirty hospital and living area of those innocent children. They are precious and pure souls like all children, your children, and they deserve a better chance of lives even from the help of a ordinary stranger.

There are many organizations that support African children with basic sanitation and goods, and there are organizations that provide free educations for African children. As a ordinary individual, there are many options to help the African children to live better lives, either by donation, volunteering, or even sharing the truth and spreading the awareness will lead to a huge improvement. We, as people who share the empathy, need to stand up for the weak and give them hope, so that one day they will have the ability to stand up for themselves.
